Bluebird Boxes

Last week, a few of us spent a day after school cleaning out our bluebird boxes (we have 9 of them) so we can put them away for the winter. The boxes were built last spring by Mrs. Cutt's 5th grade PERC class. They were set up at different spots on the school grounds by the students with help from Mr. Ingram. We didn't really expect bluebirds to use them right away, but we were luckier than we thought! Bluebirds nested in 2 of the 9 boxes. Unfortunately, by that time, school was out so the kids missed all the excitement. Ms. Russell checked them almost daily in July until the baby bluebirds flew away. Here are some pictures!

Mostly Doves and Finches

We found 4 different kinds of birds today and most were Mourning Doves. We had a hard time telling between a female House Finch and a female Purple Finch. Also we had some trouble identifying the Mourning Doves because they looked like big black blobs since it was a dark, cloudy day. We had a half-day of school today, and 6 of us stayed after to birdwatch.
